Cold callers/Rogue traders |
||
Hello all.
I know that I have sent out several posts banging on about cold callers and rogue traders but I can't emphasis this advice enough. My advice has always been NOT to employ cold callers who turn up at your doorstep telling you that work is needed to your property for example ‘you’ve got loose roof tiles' or ‘I can jet wash your driveway for a very reasonable price'. My response would be ‘okay thanks for pointing out that my whole roof needs renewing’ and then have a look yourself and if you think work does need doing, employ a local reputable company however, the chances are it might just be a few tiles that have slipped or doesn't need any work doing at all!! These are just some of the examples that these cold callers use. I'm not saying that all cold callers are rogue traders or are looking to relieve you of hundreds if not thousands of pounds but if you know that your property needs some work doing to it and you are wanting a tradesperson to do it, please go online or ask local traders who are known to be reputable to give you a quotation and always try to get at least two or three quotations and only go ahead with the work once you're satisfied with everything stated in the written contract. I know that some of these cold callers can sometimes make you think that you're getting the work done at a bargain price but you've got to question why they are knocking on your door asking to do work which is quite often not needed, they're not normally local to the area and their work doesn't normally come with guarantees.
Thank you Steve. | ||
